In Alberta, the Line Fence Act states that both property owners share equal responsibility for boundary fences. If you want to upgrade the fence, your neighbour isn't required to split the cost unless they agree. We'll advise you on the best approach and help you understand the shared-fence rules during your estimate.
In Calgary, backyard fences can generally be up to 1.85m (approximately 6 feet) tall, and front yard fences are typically limited to 1.2m (4 feet). Corner lots have additional visibility requirements. We know the bylaws inside and out and will ensure your fence is fully compliant.
For Calgary's climate, we typically set posts a minimum of 36 inches (3 feet) deep — below the frost line — and set them in concrete. This prevents heaving during freeze-thaw cycles and ensures the fence stays plumb and solid through our harsh winters and chinook winds.
Absolutely. We handle complete tear-down and disposal of your old fence as part of the project. If certain posts are still in good condition and properly set, we may be able to reuse them — we'll assess during the estimate and let you know what makes the most sense financially.
