Wood-burning pits give you that authentic crackling campfire vibe and have no ongoing fuel cost. Many of our clients opt for a wood-burning design for the experience, or gas for the convenience — we'll help you decide based on how you plan to use it.
Built-in fire pits and outdoor fireplaces generally require a development permit in Calgary. Gas connections also require a licensed gas fitter and inspection. We coordinate the permit process and work with licensed trades for all gas work — you don't have to figure this out yourself.
Calgary Fire Department guidelines require open burning to be a minimum of 2 metres from any structure, and gas fire features have specific manufacturer clearance requirements. We design every fire feature with proper setbacks built in from the start so you're always safe and compliant.
Absolutely. We add fire features to existing patios regularly. For gas fire pits, we core through or work around existing paving to run the gas line. For wood-burning features, we build the surround on top of or integrated into the existing base. We'll assess what's possible during your free on-site visit.
Gas fire tables and certain approved gas fire bowls can be used on decks, but open-flame wood-burning fireplaces generally cannot be built directly on combustible deck surfaces. We'll help you design the right fire feature for your specific situation — often a combination patio area adjacent to the deck is the ideal solution.
